A couple of Sundays ago, our pastor preached about scripture that gives him joy, makes him happy. He chose Colossians 1:15-20. “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, for all things in heaven and on earth were created by him - all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers - all things were created through him and for him. He himself is before all things and all things are held together in him. He is the head of the body, the church, as well as the beginning, the firstborn from among the dead, so that he himself may become first in all things. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in the Son and through him to reconcile all things to himself by making peace through the blood of his cross - through him, whether things on earth or things in heaven.” There was a little schadenfreude in the joy, but most of it was about the joy of the triumph of Jesus. It got me thinking about verses that give me joy. There's a bunch, but I think I will start with 1 John 3:2-3. "See how great a love God as bestowed on us that we should be called children of God, and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Little children, now we are children of God. It has not appeared as yet what we shall be, but when He appears we shall be like Him because we will see Him just as He is." There is so much in these verses. There's God's love for us. The world will never understand us as believers. There is hope for us. We will be like Him.
The amazement. The wonder. The joy.
